MINNEAPOLIS — A decade after fans flooded the streets outside First Avenue in a spontaneous outpouring of grief, Minneapolis is planning to recreate that spirit — this time in celebration.
The city and Paisley Park announced Thursday that they will host a Prince Celebration Block Party Sing-Along on Saturday, June 6, in downtown Minneapolis, one day before what would have been Prince’s 68th birthday. From June 3 to June 7, there will be concerts, shows, and more events throughout the city and at the park.
The free, all-ages event runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. outside the 110-foot Prince mural at 101 North 9th Street. Organizers are hoping to draw up to 15,000 people to sing along to some of his biggest hits, including “Purple Rain,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Sometimes it Snows in April.”…
