Minneapolis teen convicted of possessing machine gun near a high school graduation

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A federal jury convicted a Minneapolis man of possessing a machine gun created by attaching an illegal conversion device to a semi-automatic firearm.

Amiir Mawlid Ali, 19, was arrested after officers found the machine gun during a routine traffic stop as he was on the way to a high school graduation. Ali tried to flee but officers caught him before he could get away.

The firearm was equipped with a machine gun conversion device and an extended magazine loaded with more than 30 rounds of ammunition. A firearm expert testified at trial that the machine gun Ali possessed test fired 15 bullets in 2 seconds…
