Roami Aparthotel Revives Century Plaza Across From Convention Center

After sitting empty for years, the long-vacant Century Plaza building across from the Minneapolis Convention Center is quietly coming back to life as an aparthotel, and the new operator is already taking reservations. Following a long stretch of planning and city approvals, the conversion is in a soft-open phase, with a fuller summer debut expected that will turn the historic downtown block into apartment-style suites aimed at convention crowds and extended-stay visitors.

As reported by Twin Cities Business Journal, the property will carry the Roami at Century Plaza brand and is operating in a soft-open period ahead of a broader summer launch. The Business Journal notes the aparthotel is slated to offer about 146 apartment-style suites with full kitchens, and adds that Roami already operates a second Twin Cities property.

Developer background and project timeline

Swervo Development, the owner behind the redevelopment, acquired the county-owned building and secured city approvals to convert much of the site into hotel space while also making room for a new Minneapolis Police First Precinct and rooftop amenities. Finance & Commerce covered the 2023 purchase along with the planning milestones that cleared the way for construction and the current conversion work.

Suites, amenities and where it sits

Roami’s property listing describes loft-style, apartment-equipped suites designed with full kitchens and in-unit laundry, a setup clearly aimed at longer stays and convention travelers who want more than a standard hotel room. Roami and local directories place the hotel directly across from the Minneapolis Convention Center, giving it a short-walk advantage for event attendees. Meet Minneapolis lists the property as a downtown convention-center neighbor.
