HCMC wins while other hospitals lose in legislative battle

A lack of legislation to protect vital funding for Minnesota hospitals left their leaders frustrated Monday, even as they celebrated state investments to save Hennepin Healthcare and prevent its urban trauma center in Minneapolis from closing.

Hospital leaders had hoped to extend special state protections for the federal 340B program, which netted them more than $1.3 billion in 2024 by allowing them to buy discounted prescription drugs and bill insurers for the full price when they were filled at participating contract pharmacies.
