Mobile County EMS saves 3 patients in first 36 hours with new blood transfusion program

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — Mobile County EMS says a groundbreaking new program allowing paramedics to administer blood before patients reach the hospital is already saving lives — just days after launching.

The agency officially began carrying and transfusing blood in specially equipped ambulances Monday morning, becoming the only ground-based EMS service in the region with that capability.

Within just three and a half hours of deployment, crews performed their first transfusion in the field…
