Mobile police were called to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue around 5 a.m. after a sanitation worker reported an alligator in the roadway.

According to the worker, the approximately five-foot alligator was in the middle of the road. The crew was somehow able to get the reptile to move out of the road and into the parking lot behind the Historic Avenue Cultural Center.

Police say they aren’t sure where the animal came from, because where it was found was not near any water.
