MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — There is a lot of fuss over oak trees uprooted near the developing Mobile International Airport, and answers are coming from the city on why they were removed in the first place.

“For several weeks after the trees were actually removed, we were getting no information at all,” said John Robb, president of the nonprofit “Friends of Mobile Trees.”
This section of Michigan Avenue, just north of Interstate 10, used to be filled with about nine oak trees. The area is being developed for businesses and industries related to the new Mobile International Airport.
The City of Mobile, the Mobile Airport Authority, and the Mobile Industrial Development Board are working together to add a turn lane to the road.
Because the city is a part of the project, fees, permits, and other requirements were waived.
However, the mayor’s office said there is still a protocol to follow, and it wasn’t followed in this case. City representatives say they should have notified the public about the project…
