Flooding results in road closures in southwest Alabama, northeast Florida

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Flooding and roadway washouts continue to be a concern for motorists and public works and safety officials across the Gulf Coast following impacts by the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur.

In Mobile Friday, city officials are urging drivers to use caution, as some of the area roadways might remain impassable. City crews continue to clear downed trees and clear streets.

Drivers are advised to stick to major thoroughfares, as most of those remain clear at this time. The following roadways are either closed or experiencing traffic impacts due to the storm:

  • Westbound Bay Bridge Road is closed due to flooding
  • Highway 90 Service Road has a washout
  • Florida Street at Irvine Road is closed due to a downed power line
  • Two Lanes of Demetropolis Road in the area of Woodmere Street are closed due to a downed tree

The city is also preparing for more inclement weather, including rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds later today. The area remains in a flood watch until 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
