Former guidance counselor sentenced for failing to report inappropriate relationship

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A former school guidance counselor was sentenced today for failing to report the suspected sexual abuse of student by a coach.

Judge Wesley Pipes handed Carrie Meredith a six-month suspended sentence and placed her on six months’ probation.

Meredith, a former guidance counselor at Faith Academy, was originally convicted in Mobile County District Court for failing to report alleged sexual misconduct involving a coach and a student as required under Alabama law. She appealed that conviction, and a jury later returned a guilty verdict.

According to prosecutors, Meredith, a mandatory reporter under Alabama law, received information about inappropriate conduct involving a teacher and a student. However, Meredith did not report the information to the Alabama Department of Human Resources as required by law…
