Sheriff’s deputy patrols in Prichard ‘not sustainable,’ commissioner says

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Mobile County Commissioner Randall Dueitt says he has a personal connection to the residents of Prichard. He said he spent his early years growing up in Alabama Village.

But Dueitt said he has an obligation to county taxpayers, who ultimately are responsible for covering the costs of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office’s law enforcement coverage in Prichard – something it has been doing for more than a month. He cited estimates from Sheriff Paul Burch that the annual cost of doing so permanently would be $2 million.

“It’s not sustainable for the county at all – I mean, not a long period of time,” he said. “That’s just the truth.”…
