MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile City Council is considering changes to the city’s animal control ordinance that would increase fines, regulate breeders, create a new high-risk dog classification and limit the number of pets some residents can own.

Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis says the proposed changes are aimed at improving public safety and holding irresponsible pet owners accountable.
“If you’re taking care of your animals, we want you to keep taking care of your animals. This is really, you know, targeted at the bad actors who are neglecting their animals,” said Cheriogotis.
The proposal would create a new “high-risk dog” classification for certain dogs including Doberman Pinschers, Pit Bulls or American Bull Terriers, Rottweilers, Chow Chows, Wolf Dogs, Wolf Hybrids, Presa Canario, Akitas, or any mix containing a significant part of one of those breeds…
