First day of school in Baldwin includes new elementary school in Eastern Shore area

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — School starts this morning for roughly 31,000 kids around Baldwin County. A new school is opening to help a growing part of the Eastern Shore. The new Jubilee Elementary School has kept people busy before the first day.

Inside this week, teachers were getting their classrooms ready. Other members of the staff were still working on parts of the building.

This morning, Jubilee Elementary School welcomes roughly 700 kids back to class. There’s a lot to coordinate. Principal Dana Bottoms says the carline will require patience, and they’ll adapt as they learn what works best this school year. It’s a lot of moving parts.

“We have not only all the families coming to you, but you also have to worry about the logistics of the building itself, like car line and bus line and things like the intercom system working and even the phones working. So it’s a little bit of everything. It’s not just getting ready for your basic school year. It’s opening up a new facility brings on a lot of challenges too,” said Principal Dana Bottoms…
