Five people in Mobile sentenced in connection with federal COVID fraud scheme

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Five people have been sentenced in connection with a federal COVID fraud case, according to the Department of Justice.

A DOJ news release revealed that two people were sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for their part in illegally obtaining more than $1.5 million in COVID-19-related tax credits meant for legitimate businesses and individuals during the pandemic.

Three other defendants were sentenced for their role in a related scheme that involved fraudulent applications to the Small Business Administration for COVID-19 relief loans, and a sixth person was sentenced separately for his role in the tax fraud scheme, the release said…
