As Hurricane Isaias churns through the Gulf of Mexico, officials in Mobile are positioning emergency equipment, opening storm shelters, and calling off public gatherings across the city.
With hurricane watches and warnings posted along the coastline, Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis detailed municipal preparations during an interview with LiveNOW from FOX. He noted that city teams are already out in neighborhoods distributing protective supplies and staging emergency vehicles.
“We’re certainly staging resources, vehicles all throughout our city,” Cheriogotis said. “Just recently I was at one of our police precincts where handing out sandbags for our citizens to secure their homes against this water and the wind that we expect to come. Storms like this are a part of life on the Gulf Coast, so it’s nothing that we are not familiar with, but we are certainly ready as a city to respond.”…
