The family tradition at Alba Middle School

BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. (WKRG) — Rachel Seaman has been teaching for eight years.  But, being at Alba Middle School she says, is like being at home.

“Alba is a special school. Alba is special to me for many reasons—my Mom taught here for a really long time so I’ve been walking these halls since I was four or five years old,” she said.

In fact, Mom just happened to be there as we presented Rachel with her Golden Apple. She said she wasn’t sure if her daughter would turn out to be a teacher.

“Actually she wanted to be a singer,” said Mom, Lana McGuff, who taught at Alba for 25 years.
“So I really discouraged that—and I tried to inspire her to become a teacher.”

Seaman teaches history to her middle schooler.

“I teach ancient history, you know, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece Rome,” said Seaman.

She loves history and hopes her students will too.

“I just try to bring it to life for the kids because traditionally history can be really boring but if you try to make it real for them then they’ll like it too,” she said.
