Faith Time: The church struggles with attendance, volunteering

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Joining us this morning is Alan Floyd with Cottage Hill Baptist Church.
We wanted to talk about the state of the church in 2024. What would you say about the state of it in general?

Guest: It’s a great question. I think, in general, there are some good things to say about the state of the church in the U.S., as well as some things that are not so positive.

We know that the church in America is not necessarily keeping up with the increased population. We know that, statistically, between 4,000 and 5,000 churches close their doors a year.

So there are some negative things, post-COVID.

The average church in America has an attendance of about 85%, as opposed to pre-COVID numbers.

However, we know that the millennials are the ones returning to the church most. So we’re encouraged by the church getting a little bit younger.

Anchor: Let’s focus on one of those aspects, which is the idea of lower attendance. How have you seen that, and what is the impact of that at your church and other congregations that you’re aware of?
