OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — A suspect with a warrant for attempted murder was arrested at the scene of a fire near Crestview, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
While responding to a house fire at 3042 Quaser Road in Crestview, deputies with the OCSO said they found attempted murder suspect and resident of the burning home, 44-year-old David Cornell.
According to police, Cornell had an active warrant stemming from a November 2023 shooting. OCSO investigators say he allegedly shot a man in the back of the head during an argument over an alleged theft. The victim survived after having emergency surgery.
OCSO deputies arrested Cornell and took him into custody on the active warrant.
Deputies say they found suspected methamphetamine in one of Cornell’s pockets when they took him into custody.
Cornell was then charged with possession of a controlled substance.
