MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Horse experts are weighing in on the Conde Cavaliers’ Mardi Gras parade, particularly viral video showing someone striking a horse along the route.

In addition, a local veterinary clinic has sent a letter to the Mobile mayor and city council regarding treatment of the horse in Friday’s parade.

First Equine Veterinary Services, the only exclusively equine veterinary practice along the Gulf Coast, has addressed a letter to Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson and the Mobile City Council regarding horse treatment during a Mardi Gras parade.

The business also works with the Mobile Police Department’s Mounted Unit, Auxilliary members and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office’s Sheriff’s Posse.

Business leaders wrote in the letter that they encourage the use of horses in the Mardi Gras parades; however, they hope to see more regulations and protections for horses.

The letter (which can be seen in full as a PDF on this page) compares the size of horses to their riders’ sizes.
