Mobilians ready for an early Fat Tuesday start

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Mardi Gras did not only begin early this year, with Fat Tuesday landing on Feb. 13, but for the first time in Mobile history, the parade will begin a little earlier than usual.

“You will have a lot in attendance, and if you haven’t been, you are going to be in for a surprise,” Mobile native Cindy Wright said.

In past years, the Order of Athena would kick off the Fat Tuesday celebrations at 10:30 a.m., but this year, they will begin at 10 a.m.

“OK then cool! That means we get to have more fun sooner,” Mobile native Steven Johnson said.

That’s because the Knights of Revelry will be celebrating 150 years and have plans for a massive parade.

King Felix III will now lead the afternoon parades at 12:15 p.m. instead of the Knights of Revelry, who will keep the usual start time of 12:30 p.m.
