Black History Spotlight: John L. Leflore

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) – John L. Leflore was a civil rights leader and politician in Mobile. He founded the local chapter of the NAACP in 1925. Leflore also helped found the Non-Partisan Voting League where he helped organize two lawsuits which reached the U.S. Supreme court. One led to desegregation of Mobile county’s schools and the other Mobile’s at-large method of selecting the commissioners who ran the city. That lawsuit dragged out for ten years.
