News 5’s Shamonee Baker takes you behind the “seams” of how one of the statement pieces worn by the kings and queens are made, introducing you to the woman behind regal regalia.

Patricia Richardson grew up watching her mother sew. After leaving fashion college, she took on her first Mardi Gras train for her family member on the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association’s royal court.

“I started out with MAMGA; I have kudos for MAMGA because they gave me my beginning,” Richardson told News 5.

“It’s my world… I started that 35 years ago.”

Now, Ms. Pat’s work is world renowned, putting her at the top of our region’s “Regal Regalia” game.

The detachable 3D pieces of the train make her exquisite designs stand out from all the rest.

“I wanted something that I did that no one else, no other designers (were) doing,” she said.
