The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center in Mobile is presenting a new exhibit, ¡CUBA!. This exhibit, curated by the American Museum of Natural History, showcases Cuba’s culture, history, and biodiversity. It has been touring the country and is now open in Mobile. The exhibit includes a life-sized replica of a Cuban street and interactive displays of the island’s ecosystems.
The exhibit provides a detailed look at the tobacco industry, including the role of Cuban cigars in popular culture. Visitors can learn about cigar rolling equipment and aspects of Cuban culture such as industries, pastimes, cuisine, and religions. It also features the caves and markets of Cuba, offering a broad view of life on the island.
Guests can also watch a short film, Cuba, in the dome theater. This film offers a glimpse into Cuban history and culture. The exhibit’s location in Mobile is notable due to the city’s historical connections with Havana, dating back to the 1700s when trade routes were established by Pierre Le Moyne D’Iberville, one of Mobile’s founders.
