The Foley City Council has approved a bid for the East Verbena Improvement Project. The project, costing $144,515.50, aims to improve lighting, parking, and drainage, and includes roadway work. The work will take place next to commercial buildings on the east side of Alabama 59, with the goal of enhancing parking stalls and the surrounding area.

Additional funds will be used for decorative lighting. Mayor Ralph Hellmich stated that the project will address drainage issues affecting local businesses due to the current infrastructure. The project will focus on improving the drainage system, especially behind the buildings.

The mayor also mentioned that the city-owned public parking will be improved, benefiting all local businesses. He noted the project’s potential to enhance the area’s aesthetics.

The project is set to bring changes to the short street, with detailed work planned to ensure its success.

The city council also approved the construction of new sidewalks along Alabama 59, from the project site south to Commercial Bank. This is expected to improve the area’s infrastructure and accessibility.
