Mobile man found guilty of 2021 Christmas Eve murder: District Attorney

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A Mobile County jury has found a local man guilty of intentional murder, according to the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office.

Murice Devell Sashington, 40, of Mobile, was found guilty of a 2021 Christmas Eve murder.

Here’s what happened, according to the DA’s Office:

  • Sashington entered the home of his ex-wife, Shanda Avery, on Dec. 24, 2021, and waited for her to come home.
  • When Avery arrived, Sashington shot and killed her boyfriend, Quincy Kemp, and shot and injured Avery .
  • Sashington left the scene and was found months later in Nevada before he was extradited to Mobile County.

“This case is an example of a planned attack in which the perpetrator was lying in wait for the victims as they returned home on the evening of Christmas Eve, 2021,” Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood said. “They were ambushed and shot in a fit of rage and jealousy, leaving 40-year-old Quincy Kemp dead and Shanda Avery injured.
