City of Mobile to remove, prune damaged oak trees along Springhill Avenue

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Three live oak trees a part of the canopy over Springhill Avenue are set to be removed, according to a release from the City of Mobile.

The release explains that three “severely damaged live oak trees along Springhill Ave.” are set to be removed and others will be pruned on Sunday, May 5, “to address a potential hazard for pedestrians and motorists.”

This comes after a review by the City of Mobile’s Department of Urban Forestry.

“The canopy over Springhill Avenue is one of the most naturally beautiful parts of our city, and it is unfortunate that trees in that area will have to be removed,” Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. “However, our first and highest priority will always be public safety. The visible damage on these trees really tells the story. They pose a significant fall risk, and to leave them standing alongside a major thoroughfare would be irresponsible and dangerous.”
