Mobile Fire-Rescue’s 12 fireworks safety tips ahead of Independence Day

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department provided tips to stay safe while using fireworks on Independence Day.

Area residents should know fireworks are only allowed in the City of Mobile on Wednesday, July 3, and Thursday, July 4.

One event that locals can attend is the Independence Day Extravaganza at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.

Here’s how to stay safe this Fourth of July when using fireworks, according to MFRD:

  • “Always have adult supervision
  • “Light fireworks away from dry grass, buildings and other flammable materials
  • “Keep a bucket of water nearby in case of a fire
  • “Once the firework’s fuse is lit, keep your distance
  • “Never allow young children to handle fireworks
  • “Do not attempt to relight or pick up misfired fireworks
  • “Remember to always light fireworks outdoors
  • “Do not use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • “Never hold lit fireworks in your hand
  • “Do not point fireworks at a person or building
  • “Be courteous and considerate of your neighbors and consider the time of day
  • Keep pets away from fireworks”
