Friends of Mobile Trees pushing to plant trees along Airport Boulevard

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — On Airport Boulevard, all you see is a busy road and businesses, and that’s why John Robb with Friends of Mobile Trees is trying to make the road more appealing to the eye.

“This is one of the main sections in Mobile for traffic in the entire state of Alabama is right here,” Robb said. “And if there’s ever a spot that needs some trees, it’s right here.”

Robb said this project has been underway for about two years, and it focuses on planting trees on the medians on Airport Boulevard between I-65 and Azalea Road.

He also said his group has been urging the Tree Commission to plant trees, and they have raised enough money to make it happen, but it’s just been sitting there.

“Getting any kind of forward progress through a formal channel like that is difficult,” Robb said.

WKRG News 5 reached out to the Tree Commission to learn more about the project.
