‘No justice! No peace!’: Family of man killed by Bay Minette cop holds march; federal lawsuit filed

BAY MINETTE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Chants of “No justice! No peace!” sounded around the Bay Minette Courthouse in honor of Otis French Jr. — who was shot and killed by an officer two years ago.

Community members came together to celebrate French’s life, leading to a big turnout.

“I’m extremely happy to see the community come out and not only the citizens of Bay Minette have come out and support us and surrounding areas; various organizations are here supporting us in this endeavor,” Phyllis French, Otis French’s mother, said.

French was pulled over for having a broken turn signal in Bay Minette in August 2022. A scuffle followed, and the officer fired his weapon, killing him.

The Attorney General’s Office cleared the officer of any wrongdoing.

French’s family has continued to fight for transparency for the past two years—evening demanding body camera footage.
