Mobile rally goers encourage people to vote ahead of 2024 election

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – Mardi Gras Park in Downtown Mobile was packed with rally goers Saturday evening as a “Shake the field” voting rally took place.

“Come November I will be voting,” rally goer Debbie Miller said.

The rally was hosted by Alabama Foward and Stand-up Mobile, encouraging those no matter which political party they are affiliated with, to vote in the 2024 election.

“The impact could be positive or negative. There’s a lot of legislation, and a lot of judicial decisions coming out of the Supreme Court that have been rolling back the progress that has been made in our country,” Stand-up Mobile President, Shalela Dowdy said. “And so, we would like to see our country continue to progress forward towards the betterment of all and fair and equity,”

This is the first election season that Mobile will be separated into two congressional districts.

Alabama Forward helped fight for the Allen v. Milligan case. In October, federal judges decided on a new Alabama Congressional map that split Mobile County , creating a majority black voting district.
