UPDATE: Person dead after crash involving Amazon truck Tuesday morning, says MPD

UPDATE (6:23 a.m.): Officials with the Mobile Police Department have released more information about a firey crash early Tuesday morning.

MPD officials said their officers were called to a traffic accident on I-65 near the I-10 interchange around 12:55 a.m.

The driver of a vehicle had allegedly been driving northbound on I-65 in the southbound lanes when it was hit by an Amazon delivery truck.

The driver of the vehicle died, according to MPD.

MOBILE, Ala ( WKRG ) – Mobile Police and Mobile Fire-Rescue are investigating a large truck fire early Tuesday morning on southbound I-65.

Police and fire rescue responded to an Amazon delivery truck crashing off the right side of the road into a ditch on southbound I-65 near the I-10 interchange around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to Mobile Police.

When authorities arrived, they discovered the truck was on fire. The blaze ate through the truck, leaving the cargo hold a smoldering wreckage that burned for hours.
