MCPSS looks to fill new positions as the school year begins

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Mobile County Public Schools will be kicking off their first day back from summer break, Wednesday this week.

The night before the first day of class can always bring a mix of emotions. But teachers like Harmony Formica, a second-grade teacher at Hutchens Elementary, are excited for a new year of learning.

“I actually got to meet my class last Friday, and we are going to have the best year. It’s always exciting once we get to meet them and really hit the ground running,” said Formica.

MCPSS prepares for 52,000 students to be returning to classrooms, for a year of what teachers are calling ‘Growing Greatness.’

“Every child is capable of greatness,” Formica said. “We get them from just the beginning, and we get to watch them grow throughout the year, and really see how much they take off.”

The Mobile school district prides itself on being the largest school system in the state.

According to MCPSS officials, the school system has about 7200 employees currently, as teachers make up almost half of that number.
