POINT CLEAR, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A fisherman in Point Clear Monday witnessed a natural phenomenon — a jubilee.

“It’s just amazing to witness one of these phenomenons,” said Markris. “No matter how many I see they just amaze me every time.”
A jubilee happens when water is deprived of oxygen and sea creatures wash ashore.
In June, participants of a jubilee in Point Clear were ticketed. Marine Resource officers said there are rules and regulations to adhere to if anyone plans on taking seafood from a jubilee.
“A recreational fishing license is required for individuals 16 and older,” Chief of Fishery for the Alabama Department of Conservation Kevin Hanson said.

“Residents over the age of 65 need to be registered in our saltwater angler registry. There are bag limits associated with some of the more popular species like red drum, spotted sea trout, flounder, and crabs that you must abide by.”
