MAWSS responds to report recommending they take over Prichard water

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Officials with the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System have responded to a recent report that recommended they take over the Prichard Water Works and Sewer System.

“The Board of Water and Sewer (MAWSS) appreciates the recognition of its high water and sewer quality standards,” read the release.

The study of the PWWSB happened after a court-appointed John Young as the receiver in November 2023.

Part of that order required Young to provide a status report of his receivership and submit a draft master plan.

Young hired the non-profit Moonshot Missions to provide the report, which suggested options for PWWSB. One of those options was to transfer their assets and liabilities to MAWSS.

In the response, MAWSS said they would gather additional information to understand PWWSB’s operations and needs.

“This process will be lengthy, extensive, and thoroughly reviewed by the MAWSS Staff and Board,” the release said. “Our current customer base is our top priority.”
