How Sgt. Grantham, K-9 Estie with Mobile County Sheriff’s Office work to keep kids safe

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Keeping kids safe online is important, and Sgt. Laura Grantham and K-9 Estie with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office work to do just that.

The pair spoke with News 5’s Shamonee Baker and Bill Riales on the Red Couch to discuss the work they do.

The latest interview comes nearly a year after Baker met with Estie, who at the time was the only dog in the State of Alabama able to sniff out electronic storage devices . Now, four dogs in the state can do that.

Sgt. Grantham explained how Estie’s job is important in protecting kids.

“She finds hard drives, SD cards — her name’s Estie — cell phones. She works mainly on internet crimes against children cases, so people who are suspected of possessing, trading, and creating child exploitation material who keep it on flash drives and SD cards and everything,” Sgt. Grantham said. “Some of your data storage devices are micro SD cards which are little, that humans have a hard time finding, so we’ve always worried could something have been missed.”
