“Make-a-thon” and “Throw-a-thon” helps build fundraiser for Mobile food pantry through pottery

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Mobile church needs a hand helping people in need through pottery.
The annual art-soup fundraiser raises Money for a local food pantry and they’re inviting people to have a hand in some of the pottery.

They’re calling it a “make-a-thon” and for the next two Saturdays amateurs and people with some clay skill can lend a hand to make one-of-a-kind pottery.

I stopped by Central Presbyterian Church Tuesday as people were making bowls for the art-soup fundraiser. This Saturday from 10 to 2 is their make-a-thon–anyone from any skill level can come and make hand made pinch pots that can be part of the fundraiser that’s happening in November.

Then the following Saturday is their annual “throw-a-thon” open to experienced potters to make pottery on a wheel. This gives more people a chance to pitch in for this work.

“I’ve been a part of Central for four years now, and I’m able to see what they do for our community every week with their food pantry. And so this is just my way of getting people involved and helping out,” said LeaAyn Shurley with Moon Struck Pottery.
