UPDATE: Residents heard ‘loud explosion’ after Mount Vernon crash that killed 3

UPDATE (2:45 p.m.) — Those who live on Sam Jones Ave. in Mount Vernon told WKRG they heard a loud explosion before they came outside to an SUV in a tree line, engulfed in flames.

Three people were killed, and one person was injured when the Mount Vernon Police Department said the SUV veered off the road and hit a tree. The crash happened at around 6 Monday morning on Sam Avenue, about a mile East of Hwy. 43.

The Sky 5 drone captured video of the SUV, which appeared to be completely burnt.

There is no indication of how fast the SUV was going or what caused it to veer off the road in the first place.

MOUNT VERNON, Ala. (WKRG) — Three people are dead and one is injured after a crash in Mount Vernon early Monday morning, according to police.

According to officials with the Mount Vernon Police Department, the single-vehicle crash happened around 6 a.m.

Officials said the vehicle hit a tree and caught on fire. The three people were confirmed dead and a fourth was taken to the hospital.
