Foley officials working to improve traffic safety and congestion

FOLEY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Officials with the City of Foley are working to improve traffic safety and congestion in the area as the city grows and more vehicles continue to pass through.

Planners and engineers in Foley are hoping to balance traffic issues including speeding. They are looking for ways to keep traffic at a safe speed but not in a way that leads to gridlock and accidents.

“Foley is aware that with the increase in our population, that traffic is an issue,” said Mayor Ralph Hellmich. “We’re working in several areas to handle that, whether it’s mitigating speed or other solutions. We’re trying to keep traffic moving at a safe speed all over the city.”

Multiple solutions to slow drivers down were presented in the city’s news release, some of which included planting trees in medians or on the right of way, widening stripes on the sides and centers of streets, and placing medians on neighborhood streets.
