Large beehive removal at one of Mobile’s oldest churches

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — One of Mobile’s oldest churches has a new problem. They’re trying to get rid of a honeybee hive that’s made its home in a bell tower.

Honeybees are hard to get rid of, in some cases they are protected and there are few people who work on the careful process of removal.

These are images from Trinity Episcopal Church. They recently discovered a hive about 90 feet off the ground embedded in the building.

Instead of killing the hive they are removing the hive. The bees aren’t happy about it and are defending their honey.

Bryan Pearce with the church says he estimates nearly two gallons of honey have fallen to the floor since they began the removal process. He says a couple of people have been stung.

They’ll continue the removal process Tuesday morning. Pearce says they believe the hive started more than three months ago and had been growing without them knowing.
