Children’s & Women’s Hospital hosts first Childhood Cancer Reunion

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Children’s & Women’s Hospital hosted its first Childhood Cancer Reunion Sunday afternoon.

Any person who had been a part of a childhood cancer journey at the hospital was invited, including patients, family members, caregivers, and hospital staff.

“This community I hope gives them the support and the hope that they need to get through whatever the hard days are,” USA Health Child Life Program Specialist, Beth Abston said.

Micheal Davis and his family remember facing hard days 11 years ago.

“We came back today because it’s like family,” Micheal Davis Sr. said.

The Davis family spent 152 days at Children’s & Women’s Hospital when their son was diagnosed with Leukemia during his senior year of high school.

“You get to not only know the hospital staff but see the other people there,” cancer survivor, Micheal Davis Jr. said. “Some of them go through the same thing that you are, you just have that ability to relate and get through it the best you can. You hunker down and take it one day at a time and just keep moving forward.”
