Helene causes closures along Gulf Coast ahead of landfall (List)

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — As Hurricane Helene enters the Gulf of Mexico and the National Hurricane Center issues advisories , many entities and places of business are closing.

WKRG News 5 is keeping track of the closures ahead of the storm’s anticipated landfall.

Here is a list of the closures ahead of Helene:

Eglin Air Force Base: Eglin Air Force Base is moving to a mission essential posture on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 6 a.m.

Most options and services will be closed or impacted.

  • The 96th Medical Group’s Emergency Room and inpatient services will remain open. All other medical facilities will be closed.
  • The Aero Club, Outdoor Recreation, Eglin Golf Course, honor guard, child development centers and youth center will be closed.
  • The commissary, the West Gate Shoppette and both Shopette gas pumps will stay open.

Gulf Islands National Seashore: Gulf Islands National Seashore closed the Fort Pickens and Okaloosa areas to day use at 4:30 on Tuesday, Sept. 24, ahead of Helene.
