MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A local woman who retired from law enforcement started a company that aims to educate and empower people of all ages through firearm instruction courses.

According to Rankin, gun safety is an important thing to know, something that she said some equate to being as important as swimming lessons. She said gun safety is something that comes in layers like an onion and that there are many options for securing a gun.

“I have a 14 and a 16-year-old that we’ve had firearms in the house — we have them — when they were coming up and they never dug in my purse for gum, they didn’t go in my bedroom when we had a babysitter. They knew not to do that, but still that was a layer and then there’s the safe options.”
