Loxley Elementary clears the classrooms to celebrate a Golden Apple winner

LOXLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — We love going to Loxley Elementary with its open courtyard — where they let all the students out of class to celebrate their latest Golden Apple-winning teacher.  Unfortunately, our teacher, Jesse Holder, was also milling about, wondering what was happening.

Holder has been teaching for 11 years — all right here at Loxley Elementary.

“Most of that time I taught sixth grade, and I’m transitioning to a new role this year as a behavior specialist,” he said.

Like most teachers, Holder loves his job because of the kids. But he said his new role will allow him to help them better adjust to things that might be new to them.

“Helping students — helping them regulate and develop coping skills to come to class and things like that,” he said. “Imagine a kindergartner who is having difficulty coming to school — we try to help manage those things.”

And his new job couldn’t be more welcome news to many parents — especially the one who nominated Holder for a Golden Apple.
