MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Local author and educator Melody A Patterson is combining the worlds of writing and teaching with her new book, “ The Genius Within .”
Patterson joined News 5’s Shamonee Baker and Bill Riales on the red couch to discuss the book, which is about a young boy with autism’s first day of school.

According to Patterson, the new book draws from what she has learned through working with kids for the past 32 years.
“What I’ve found out is that every single child has a genius within them,” Patterson said. “Sometimes it’s masked as different things. You hear, ‘he has autism,’ ‘he has ADHD,’ or ‘he’s really active,’ ‘he’s smart,’ or ‘he has some delays’ and what I’ve learned over time is that every child, every person has a genius within and we just have to tap into it and find out what it is and then get them to navigate the course.”
