Mobile man sentenced for illegal possession of machine gun: USDOJ

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A Mobile man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for illegally possessing a machine gun, according to the United States Department of Justice.

Court documents show Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested 21-year-old Hunter Lee Powell on Jan. 23, 2024, after he sold a machine gun-conversion device, also known as a Glock switch, to another person.

Powell was indicted for possessing a machine gun, and he pled guilty to that charge.

Baldwin County High School teacher, coach arrested and placed on administrative leave

United States District Court Judge Terry F. Moorer sentenced Powell to 18 months in prison. Powell’s sentence will be followed by a three-year term of supervised release for possessing the machine gun.

The FBI investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica S. Terrill prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
