SPANISH FORT, Ala. ( WKRG ) — As we enter the holiday season, a local food bank is rallying support to help more families this Thanksgiving. A lot of work goes into Thanksgiving, especially when trying to help people in need in Baldwin County. Saturday was a busy day at the Prodisee Pantry in Spanish Fort.
“It is about making sure local families don’t go hungry, that their plates are filled with healthy food and their hearts are filled with hope,” Prodisee Pantry Executive Director Deann Servos said. “This will go a long way this holiday season and bringing a little hope to families who are struggling.”
Dozens of people gathered in the food pantry’s parking lot for an assembly line. Families lined up with empty boxes at one end, and each box was put on a conveyor belt and loaded with different non-perishable items for a Thanksgiving meal.
In less than two hours, volunteers assembled 1,500 boxes that will be part of Thanksgiving food distributions as we get closer to the November holiday. This flurry of activity is a big help at a time when the need for emergency food is growing in Baldwin County.
