SILVERHILL, Ala. (WKRG) — An old church in a Baldwin County town is celebrating a new milestone. The First Baptist Church of Silverhill marked 125 years on Sunday.
“God had a plan for this church. The ministry that this church had been able to serve in this community has been very important. There are people here that care about the community and have a heart for God and have a heart for the community,” said church member Steven Grant.
People in this congregation say this church is a place with a lot of history and a lot of heart.
“I think the greatest thing about our church is just the fellowship and the unity that we have together. We’ve got people here from all walks of life,” said church member Tina Dearborn.
The church was founded 125 years ago as a Swedish church. It’s almost as old as the town itself.
“This place is a house of worship for God our Father. And we’re special because we’re one family. We love everybody. We are a family,” said Deacon Dennis Madden.
And despite decades of ministry and change, their faith has remained constant.
