UPDATE (3 p.m.): More information has been released about a Monday crash that involved a Mobile Police Department vehicle.
According to a Mobile Police Department spokesperson, the crash happened around 11:35 a.m. as an MPD officer was responding to a nearby incident where a felony suspect led officers on a pursuit.
“While en route, the officer’s patrol vehicle was involved in a traffic accident with two other vehicles in the 4100 block of Government Boulevard,” the release said.
The department spokesperson said that four people, including the officer, were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, according to police.
UPDATE (1 p.m.): The Mobile Police Department provided more information on what they said led to a Monday afternoon crash involving an MPD patrol vehicle — and News 5 learned about an animal involved in the incident.
According to an MPD supervisor at the scene, an officer was trying to assist with a pursuit when they encountered the other vehicles. The supervisor said the two other vehicles involved in the crash were not involved in the pursuit.
