Reaching the age of 103 is no small feat, but for Billie Engel, Carmella Just, and Ruby Jones, it’s another chapter in lives filled with adventure, resilience, and joy.
The three women, residents of Trustwell Living at Fairfield Place, recently celebrated this incredible milestone together.
Their stories offer a glimpse into history, resilience, and the beauty of a life well-lived.
Adventures That Crossed Continents
Billie Engel’s life has been anything but ordinary.
Her knack for adventure once led her to hitchhike solo in Israel just to visit Jerusalem.
On another occasion, she and a friend found themselves locked up overnight in Chile after breaking curfew, sharing a cell with local prostitutes.
A Texas native, Engel also made her mark during World War II, working on B-25 bomber hydraulics and teaching fellow servicemen how to repair them.
That’s where she met her husband, Larry, whom she married after just two weeks of dining together nightly.
