BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Thousands of people around the Gulf Coast have returned home after a big weekend of traveling. Many made pit stops along the way to help make the hours spent behind the wheel a little more bearable.
As the line getting into Buc-ee’s built up, the line of vehicles trying to get out became just as dense, as people got fuel and rested up for the next leg of their journey.
“We left on Wednesday, so it wasn’t too bad. There wasn’t really any traffic. It’s hard to find a spot, at a Buc-ee’s though,” Johnah Chin said while fueling his vehicle. He’s headed to New Orleans.
AAA estimates nearly 80 million people traveled 50 miles or more from home this year , the biggest crowd for Thanksgiving travel ever, and more than 89% are doing it via car, no matter the challenges that come with it. Some families have hundreds, and maybe even more than a thousand miles to drive during this holiday weekend. They have to find different ways to keep it together during a long trip. Shawna Weaver is traveling with her kids in tow, with hundreds of miles left until home she hopes the kids can stay occupied.
