MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A family in Satsuma is salvaging anything they can from their home after a fire destroyed it Thursday afternoon.
“It’s not easy,” homeowner, Austin Alexander said.
The sunshine yellow home on Charles V Street, now burnt to a crisp.
“My neighbor came and knocked on the door and said, ‘Hey there’s smoke coming from your garage’,” wife, Maghan Alexander said.
In just a matter of minutes, the smoke turned into flames, completely engulfing the garage and spreading to the house.
Maghan says she called her husband in a panic and tried to use a fire extinguisher but eventually called the fire department for help.
Both Saraland and Satsuma departments worked on the fire, taking about an hour to put out the flames.
“There is a lot of damage from the fire but there is more from smoke and water,” Maghan said.
The rebuild process will take at least six months to complete. The family will also have to replace material items like beds that were damaged in the fire.
